Mindful Eating

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

I’ve been reading a lot about it recently. There is so much to it but I shall try and summarize my learning. It’s all about knowing what you put into your mouth, savouring its texture, aroma, chewing it slowly to assimilate its flavour .So, how does it help? Well according to research that has been conducted in this area it has been hypothesized that, mindful eating, *Helps with eating disorders like bulimia. *Prevents overeating of food as you are mindfully aware of your intake. *Definitely prevents binge eating as every time you put something into your mouth you begin to ask the question “Is it needed?” *Even if we are eating junk food like a burger or a pizza we would soon realise when to stop. *Strangely it helps build good eating habits. *You soon become aware of your choice of foods.

· It helps you realise when to eat and to eat only when you are hungry. HOW DO WE DO THIS *Come to the table when hungry(not ravenous though) *Start with small portions of food

· Say your prayers of gratitude before you start your meal. *Enjoy every morsel you put into your mouth and savour it.

· Eat slowly and chew well.

· No gadgets while eating please! When I completed reading research articles I concluded that this zen practise was meditation in itself . Looks easy but difficult to practice. Let’s all try and have one meal a day mindfully. I try it with breakfast , you guys can choose your meals. And by the way no talking too! I am sharing a link below that answers many questions related to mindful eating and is one of the articles that helped me write this post https://www.psychologytoday.com/…/200902/mindful-eating If you have any questions regarding the topic or any suggestions that would help me improve you can post them in the comments section!
